The reigning back-to-back division champions, San Diego Padres are playing in the National League Western Division and were founded in the year 1969. Since the team was founded, they are already based in San Diego, California. They already won 2 National League pennants and five Division titles. Tony Gwynn is one of the most outstanding players in the history of baseball that came from the San Diego Padres.

During the team’s early years in the league they struggled a lot to win every game but always finished last in each of the first seasons in the National League West and had lost 100 games or more four times. In the 1970s, the Padres had improved in their playing career and with the leadership of Ozzie Smith, the team had improved in their standing but had finished the decade with a losing season and had accomplished a 68-93 record. It was in the year 1984 when they won the National League West Championship with a powerful 92-70 record. In 1987, Benito Santiago became the team’s rookie catcher and when he had hit 34 successive games, he was hailed as the National League Rookie of the Year.

During the 2007 season, the San Diego Padres had amazingly won in a game against the San Francisco Giants where they were able to post a 7-0 record. During this season, the team’s key players were Jake Peavy, Chris Young, Clay Hensley, Greeg Maddux and David Wells.
