Well known as the five-time World Series Champion, Pittsburgh Pirates had also grabbed nine National League pennants and nine East Division titles. The Pirates are currently based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and are playing in the Central Division of the National League. The team was also known as the Pittsburgh Alleghenies in 1882 and Pittsburgh Innocents in 1890. Some of the team’s players that are established as among the most outstanding in the baseball history are Roberto Clemente and Bill Mazeroski.
 
It was in 1876 when the team played in professional baseball and had joined the National League in the year 1887. In the 1900s, the Pirates had dominated also the National League and in 1909 they had defeated the Detroit Tigers leading them to their first World Series title. In the 1960s, the team continued to have a strong defensive play where they were led by Mazeroski and Roberto Clemente who is regarded as one of the best all-time hitters in the game. They had also won their first of five division titles in the 1970s also their fourth World Series title.
 
The team had won the first three division titles in the 1990s but had unfortunately did not make it to the World Series. During the 2006 season, the team had lost their first six games but during the second half of the season, they made a successful turn around and had accomplished a 37-35 record during the second half.
