Currently hailed as the American League Champions, Detroit Tigers are based in Detroit, Michigan and are playing in the American League Central Division. They had remarkably won four World Series titles, 10 American League pennants and three East Division titles. They became the American League Champions as they defeated Oakland but has unfortunately lost to St. Louis during the World Series in 2006.
Established in 1894, the Tigers are the only members of the Western League that remains in its original city. They were originally called as the Detroit Wolverines and they had their best year in 1887 where they won the National League pennant and also the exhibition World Series. It was in 1985 when they were able to face the Kansas City Royals during the American League Championship Series. In the year 1991, the team had improved in their playing career where they posted more winning records than the previous year. The Tigers however did not post a winning record from 1994 to 2005 and their only best during those years was 79-83 which they accomplished in the year 1997 and 2000.
Just before the 2005 season, the team had signed Magglio Ordoñez and Troy Percival and on June 8, 2005, they traded Ugueth Urbina and Ramon Martinez for Placido Polanco. The Tigers had a fruitful year in 2006 where they were able to make it to the top of the American League standings and had advanced to the World Series.
Tigers’ memorabilia such as their 2007 framed 8x10 photo team collage, dirt coin, and their framed 8x10 photo – 2006 ALCS champions celebration can be anyone’s collection. Common typographical errors of the team’s name are Ditroit Tigers, Detoit Tiggers, Deatroit Tegers, Detroite Tigirs, and Detoirt Tigers.
