They were formerly known as the Cleveland Blues in 1901, Cleveland Bronchos in 1902, Cleveland Naps in 1905 and finally Cleveland Indians in 1915 up to the present. Among the team’s well known players are Kirk Gibson and Magglio Ordonez.

The team had managed one third-place and five fourth-places finishes from the year 1953 to 1993. It was in 1980 when the Indians’ Joe Charbonneau had won the American League Rookie of the Year award and in the following year, Len Parker was able to pitch a perfect game against the Toronto Blue Jays.
