The “O’s” and “The birds” were the Nicknames of the Major League baseball team Baltimore Orioles. They are currently based in Baltimore Oriole. The team is owned by Attorney Peter Angelos and they are playing in the Eastern Division of the American League. Among the team’s highly recognized players are Eddie Murray and Cal Ripken.

The glorious years of the team started in 1966, wherein the Orioles farm system formed the core of winning teams which produced high quality players and even coaches. “Perfect practice makes perfect”, these were the words from Coach Cal Ripken Sr., playing baseball the Oriole Way. They believed that hard work, strong understanding of fundamentals and professionalism are the keys to win in the major league level.

It was 1995 that Cal Ripken Jr. broke Lou Gehrig’s consecutive games streak of 2,130 games. This was voted by the fans within the country as the all-time baseball moment of the 20th century. Ripken sits on September 20, 1998 against the New York Yankees at Oriole Park at Carmen Yards finishing 2,632 powerful straight games. 2005 also became the most controversial year for the Orioles. The team jumped out in front of the AL East division, holding the first place for 63 days, but they struggled during the All-Star break dropping themselves close to the Yankees and Sox. Following the disappointing year of 2005, there were major changes that happened, Jim Beattie, Executive VP, re-signed allowing Mike Flanagan to be the GM of Orioles.
