Affectionately known as the “Lefty,” Steve Carlton is one of the most successful pitchers to ever play in the league. Elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1994 with 96% of the vote, the ten-time All-Star Carlton was born on December 22, 1944 in Miami, Florida.
Carlton is a former left-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball from 1965 to 1988, and he played for the St. Louis Cardinals, Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago White Sox, San Francisco Giants, Cleveland Indians and Minnesota Twins. He was the first pitcher to win four CY Young Awards in a career and still the last National League pitcher t win 25 or more games in one season.
Debuted with the St. Louis Cardinals at the age of 20, Carlton enjoyed immediate success in St. Louis by posting winning records and reaching the World Series in 1967 and 1968. Traded to the Philadelphia Phillies before the 1972 season, Carlton led the league in 27 wins, 30 complete games, 310 strikeouts, and 1.97 ERA and earned the Hickok Belt as the top professional athlete of the year. Personally winning the final game, Carlton helped the Phillies won their only World Series in 1980, and in 1981, he won the Gold Glove Award for his fielding and helped the Phillies to another pennant in 1983. In his career, he struck out 4, 136 batters and had 329 career wins.
Avail some of Carlton’s cool memorabilia such as his signed “HOF” (MLB) baseball, autographed “HOF” 94 16x20 photo and his signed “HOF and lefty” jersey. Typographical errors of his name can be Steph Carlton, Steve Karlton, Steev Cartoon, Steve Karton, Stevie Carlton, Steph Carelton, and Seth Carlton.
