Born on the 10th of November, 1972 in Des Plaines, Illinois, Shawn David Green is a Major League Baseball player and stands 6’4”. He is the starting right fielder for the New York Mets. He attended Tustin High School.
He was drafted as the 1st round pick, 16th overall, by the Toronto Blue Jays during the 1991 amateur draft. He played for the Dunedin Blue Jays in 1992 of the Florida State League, and was selected to the league’s all-star team. He hit .344, winning the International League batting title, in 1994. He was voted the International League Rookie of the Year, Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Player of the Year, and International League’s Best Batting Prostpect, Best Outfield Arm and Most Exciting Player in Baseball America’s Tools of the Trade poll.
His major league’s debut was on September 28, 1993. In 1995, he started in 97 games, hitting 15 homers and batting .288. On November 8, 1999, he was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2006.On August 22, 2006; he was signed by the Diamondbacks to the New York Mets. In the 2006 playoffs, Green tied for the team lead with 3 doubles, and hit .313, second best on the team. On the 13th of February, 2007, it was reported that the Mets declined a $10 million mutual option on his contract.
