Selected as an amateur free agent in the 1937 seasons by the New York Yankees is Phil Rizzuto, a former Major League Baseball player that was born in Brooklyn, New York on September 25, 1917 and is widely known as the “The Scooter”
He is the oldest living member of the Baseball Hall of Fame. The entire 13-year career of Rizzuto was played with the Yankees as a shortstop. In the 1950 seasons, Rizzuto was voted as the Most Valuable Player. But before it happened, previously, Rizzuto played in five All-Star Games. At that same season, he won the Hickok Belt Award. Named as a top professional athlete of the year, during the best season of his career, Rizzuto reined his name in the league’s history. Batted right-handed and threw right-handed, Rizzuto made his major league debut on April 14, 1941 and played his final game on August 16, 1956. His career statistics recorded batting average of .273, 1588 hits and runs scored of 877. His career highlights included the All Star in 1942, 1950-1953. The Babe Ruth Award in 1951, in 1949 to 1952 seasons, Rizzuto led the league in sacrifice hits and led the A.L shortstops in fielding .982 batting average.
