Signed Mookie Wilson Memorabilia

Born on the 9th of February 1956 in Bamberg, South Carolina, William Hayward Wilson is also known as Mookie Wilson. He is a former Major League Baseball outfielder who played with the New York Mets and Toronto Blue Jays.

 

Wilson played college baseball at University of South Carolina and later earned a bachelor’s degree from Mercy College in 1996. In about 12 seasons, he was a .274 hitter with 67 home runs, 438 RBIs, and 327 stolen bases in 1403 games. He holds the Mets career records for 62 career triples and 281 career stolen bases. He is the batter who, in game 6 of the 1986 World Series, avoided being hit by a wild pitch, allowing the tying run to score in the bottom of the 10th. His ground ball later in the same at bat went through the legs of Bill Buckner, a Red Sox first baseman. When the Mets decided to rebuild, he requested a trade. The Mets granted him by transfering him to the Blue Jays in exchange for Jeff Musselman and Mike Brady on August 1, 1989.

 

In 1996, Wilson was inducted into the New York Mets Hall of Fame. In 2005, he managed the single A team Brooklyn Cyclones. Previously, he managed the Rookie League Kingsport Mets team. From 1997 to 2002, he was a coach for the New York Mets.
