Former American two-sport athletic star, and best known as a Major League Baseball player is Kirk Harold Gibson. He was born in Pontiac, Michigan on May 28, 1957; though he grew up in Waterford, Michigan. He is presently the bench coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks. From 1998 through 2002, he was a Detroit Tigers television analyst on FSN Detroit for five seasons.
He played as the right fielder for the Detroit Tigers from 1983 to 1985. He became a free agent after the 1985 season, but Gibson didn’t receive significant offers. He set a flying record in 1987. He flew a Cessna 206 to a height of 25,200 feet in Lakeland, Florida. The record was certified by the National Aeronautic Association. In 1988, the Los Angeles Dodgers signed in Gibson. In the 1988 World Series against the Oakland Athletics, he acquired a severe injury on his leg. He was not expected to play.
In 1991, he was signed as a free agent with the Kansas City Royals and then signed in as a free agent with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1992 that led to the recognition of Kirk Gibson autographed "88 WS GW HR" baseball.
