Born on May 15, 1953 in Glen Dale, West Virginia was a former Major League Baseball player who was also considered as one of the greatest third basemen in Major League Baseball history.
He was drafted in the second round by the fledgling Kansas City Royals during the 29th overall of the 1971 baseball draft. He began as a shortstop and shifted afterwards to the third base. Being a third baseman, his arm was really an asset which helped him stay in that spot for 15 years. He also played for Billings Montana in 1971, for Rookie League, San Jose, California in 1972 and in 1973 with Omaha, Nebraska. In 1975, he topped the .300 mark for the first time with a .308 mark which led him to win his first batting title in 1976 with a .333 average. With 22 home runs, Brett rose as an incredible hitter helping the Royals to another American League Championship Series. In the 1979 season, he was on the 3rd spot in MVP voting. He also became the sixth player to garner at least 20 doubles triples and homers packed in one season together with a .329 batting with an on-base percentage of .376 and a slugging percentage of .563.
He was regarded as the second- best third baseman of all time and in 1999 he was elected to the Hall of Fame which was ranked as the fourth-highest voting percentage in baseball history.
