Dwight Gooden was born on November 16, 1964 in Tampa, Florida. Gooden was also known as Doc Gooden or Dr. K for some reasons. He was one of the most prevailing and feared pitchers in the National league and Major League. But sad to say, his career declined due to injuries and drug abuse.

Gooden was drafted in the first rounds in 1982. He played for one season in the Minors where he played and won for the Carolina League. Gooden got 300 strikeouts in 191 innings that amazed New York Mets Manager Davey Johnson and got Gooden to play in the Majors. His Major League debut was on April 7, 1984 with the New York Mets at the age of 19. Playing in the majors really showed Gooden’s potentials. He even received several awards like, Rookie of the year, and was the first ever-youngest recipient of the Cy Young Award. By the year 1986 Gooden was able to compile a 17- 6 record and his strikeouts were fifth in the National League.

Having gotten this far in his career Gooden encountered difficulties along the way. He had several injuries and was even found to involve himself into drugs. Though analyst says it was drug abuse that led his career downfall, some s ay that he had overworked and his body was not able to carry on with it leading him prone to injury. Gooden retired by the year 2001.
