Best remembered as one of the most outstanding players in the history of baseball, Dennis Eckersley was born in Oakland, California on October 3, 1954. He is as well established as the first ever pitcher in the Major Legauea Baseball to have set a record of 20 victories and 50 excellent saves in a single season. Among the teams he had played with were the Cleveland Indians, Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, Oakland Athletics, and St. Louis Cardinals.
Dennis Eckersley is also known to baseball fanatics as “Eck”. He started his Major League career when he was chosen by the Indians during the 1972 amateur draft. Until then, he had continually played a great role in achieving various honors and victories for his team.
To add, he was a well tagged with different honors from many baseball sporting events like his American League Cy Young Award in the year 1992 and the Most Valuable Player honor, still in the same year cited. He was also placed in the 98th spot of The Sporting News’ list of 100 for being one of the greatest players of all time. He was also already inducted in the Baseball Hall of Fame and had his number retired.
