Widely known as “Big Papi”, David Ortiz was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on November 18, 1975. He is a Major League Baseball designate hitter that plays with the Boston Red Sox since the 2003 season.
Ortiz was able to play in four All-Star Games and still holds the Red Sox single-season for 54 home runs record. At the early age of 17, he started playing in the league. Ortiz was first signed with the Seattle Mariners in the 1992 season. On September 2, 1997, he made his major league debut with the Minnesota Twins. In 2003 season, Ortiz signed as a free agent for the Red Sox. His first season with the team made him to record a hit of .288 with 31 home runs and 101 RBI. This was played by him in 128 games. As he ends this season, he finished fifth in the American League Most Valuable Player vote.
As the following season came, the Red Sox won the World Series, and Ortiz was a part of the team. His season with the team was said to be a victorious one. He achieved a lot while playing with the team in that season. Ortiz started to win the American League Division Series, followed the American League Championship Series and eventually won the MVP honors from the ALCS.
