David Brian Cone is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who was born in Kansas City, Missouri on January 2, 1963. A right-handed and considered as one of the highest strikeout pitchers in the majors and won the American League Cy Young Award in 1994 of the Kansas City Royals.
During the 3rd round of the 1981 amateur draft Cone was drafted by the Royals. And on June 8, 1986 he made his Major League debut. Cone’s initial extraordinary year came in 1988 when he went 20 to 3 with a 22.2 ERA that made the Mets lead during the postseason. Over the following twelve years, Clone became familiarized for leading his teams to the postseason and was recognized as a “big game” pitcher. And it was also this name that Cone became famous profession merchandise during agreement offers as his pitching down the stretch that he was highly sought by opposing teams.
Cone struck out three batters on nine pitches in the fifth inning of a 3 to 2 win over the Cincinnati Reds on August 30, 1991. He also became the 16th National League pitcher and the 25th pitcher in Major League history to gain the nine-strike/three-strikeout half-inning. Cone also enjoyed a 20-win season in 1998, wherein setting a Major League record for the longest term.
