Widely known as the “Dutch” and “old professor”, Casey Stengel is a former American baseball player and a manager. He was born in Kansas City on July 30, 1890 and was regarded as an athletically inclined in playing various sports during his early age.
Stengel threw left-handed and batted left-handed. That in his playing career spent time playing for the Brooklyn Dodgers, Pittsburgh Pirates, Philadelphia Phillies, New York Giants and Boston Braves. As a manager, Stengel managed the Brooklyn Dodgers, Boston Braves, New York Yankees and New York Mets. He started as an outfielder playing in several teams. Stengel was able to play in three Worlds Series. For over the 14 major league seasons that Stengel played, he recorded a batting average of .284.
Not just famous in the league as a competent player, Stengel had become known for being a very good manager. Although his first season with the Dodgers did not attain much of an honor, Stengel was an optimistic manager that made him to become the only person that managed a team into five consecutive championships. Also because of his abilities in playing the league, he helped the Yankees in winning four straight World Series victories. In the 1966 season, Stengel was then inducted in the Baseball Hall of Fame and New York Mets Hall of Fame in 1981 season.
