Hideki Matsui was a celebrated hero in his native land of Japan, known for his power and grace on the field. So it was huge news in Japan and America after ""Godzilla"" joined the New York Yankees in 2003. Matsui made an instant impact, becoming the first Yankee in history to crush a grand slam in his first at-bat at Yankee Stadium. Later, after some time adjusting to Major League pitching, Matsui would have a great year at the plate, ending the season with a .287 batting average, 16 home runs and 106 RBI. Matsui bettered those numbers in 2004 and 2005, and looks poised for another solid season in 2006. This official MLB jersey has been hand signed by Hideki Matsui.
